About the route
You’re invited to attend a community celebration to mark the official opening of Bradford’s new Canal Road cycle route.
The new 2.3km segregated cycle route between Bradford Forster Square and along the Canal Road / Valley Road corridor will link to the existing Canal Road Greenway, connecting people travelling by bike between Shipley and the city centre with employment, training and leisure opportunities.
The £3.1m scheme is part of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s CityConnect programme, which works in partnership with local authorities and other organisations across the region to encourage more people to travel by bike or on foot.
About the led ride
If you’re keen to cycle the new route then why not join us for a led ride? We’re meeting at the entrance to the Canal Road Greenway (if you’re travelling from the Shipley end, it’s on the left shortly after the turn to Briggate, if you’re travelling from the Bradford direction, on the right shortly after the left-hand turn to Argyle Street – please see pin on second attachment, nearest postcode BD18 2BX). Please arrive at 9am for a 9.15am departure.
It’s helpful if you can let us know you’re coming via Facebook or e-mail www.facebook.com/events/2305062926378479/
About the ribbon cutting
The ribbon cutting, photos and media call will take place at 10am at the island at the junction where Valley Road, Mill Street and Canal Road meet (please see the pin on first attachment, nearest postcode BD1 4AY).
Members of the community will be joined by Cllr Kim Groves, Chair of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Transport Committee, and Cllr Alex Ross-Shaw, Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport at Bradford Council.

After the ribbon cutting, there will be light refreshments from Bread and Roses catering, and fun cycling activities from BeCycling for children at Bradford Capital of Cycling, Hall Ings, Bradford BD1 5SD, from 10.30am -1pm.
