A blue plaque is a permanent sign placed on a building in a public location to commemorate a link between that site and a nationally famous person or event. Bradford has many and this is a chance to explore some of them on bikes – learn something and make friends whilst enjoying the ride. Bike loans available, meeting at Bradford Capital of Cycling. On Yer Bike! Exhibition, rides and free bike repairs
Dates: Wednesday, 10th – Sunday, 14th of September
Bradford’s City of Culture 2025 brings us the “On Yer Bike” project, which culminates in a final exhibition and activities hosted in The Beacon mobile venue at Lister Park, beginning on September 10th.
This dynamic exhibition will showcase the artistic creations inspired by the diverse cycling stories created by communities in Buttershaw, Bowling and Keighley. Expect to see a vibrant display of artwork in various mediums, including photography, audio, printing, and collage, all of which tell the rich narrative of Bradford’s cycling heritage and its people.
Capital of Cycling will be organising bike rides directly to the exhibition in Lister Park from Buttershaw and Keighley and offering free “Dr Bike” sessions at the exhibition location (free minor repairs). Make sure to follow Capital of Cycling’s Facebook page and check www.capitalofcycling.org for more information.

Capital of Cycling
Hello,
Thanks for all the work you do for the community!
I would like to know if you also give out free bikes please? I’ve got 3 children ages 9, 8 and 6 who are just learning how to ride a bike but do not have bikes at the moment. They are looking forward to using their summer holiday to learn how to ride a bike.
Thanks in advance for your response.
Regards,
Adeola Adefolaju
Hi Adeola,
We don’t have a completely open gifting scheme going at the moment. We have run them for specific low income groups or communities in the past and usually post about things like that on here or on our social media when available. The Upcycle shop in Shipley has quite cheap second hand bikes if that’s an option for you: https://upcyclemcf.org/community/shipley-bikery.
