Community Outreach Project

Are you a local community group or organisation in Bradford? Would you like to use cycling to meet your aims and objectives, make people’s lives better or improve the environment? Capital of Cycling can help!

Demand for cycling activities has risen substantially since lockdown in March and Capital of Cycling is poised to help others meet demand from their communities.

Capital of Cycling is ready to provide and help and advice to organisations and community groups that can use cycling and related activity to support meeting the needs of their communities in Bradford.

We are happy to announce that, thanks to a grant from the Reaching Communities Fund, we have extended our team with two new Community Outreach Officers, that are ready to offer their expertise and help with any projects or ideas that will enable us to tackle the needs of communities within the greater Bradford area.

Aggie Maxwell comes to the role with years of community based activity experience, from campaigns officer to development manager to executive director. She is a keen cyclist and qualified ride leader.

Ana Averescu is an experienced project coordinator, with a solid background in social and political sciences, that will bring to the role the Social Justice concept through community building and support.

Our Outreach Officers can help with:

  • Assessing need for community based cycling activities;
  • Linking you with service providers;
  • Training for staff or volunteers;
  • Funding applications;
  • Practicalities like insurance, group structures etc;
  • Marketing and promotion;
  • Supplying equipment such as bikes;
  • Supporting staff and volunteers in delivering activities.

Cycling activity can help you meet objectives including health and well-being, mental health, social isolation and loneliness, social disadvantage, access to work, social cohesion and more.

We’re also planning to create a support network of cycling activity providers in Bradford and beyond, to support one another and share best practice.

This project will enable our community to travel safely, keep healthy and improve the environment.

In short, cycling holds part of the solution to many of the problems a modern city faces – environmental, health related, economic etc. – and our project makes a difference by unlocking that solution
